“continuum // discontinuum” is a seamless, hour-long production featuring works by Philip Glass, Terry Riley, Steve Reich, and Kevin Hartnett. Early minimalist keyboard music collides with contemporary music for amplified strings, percussion, and electronics in a program that explores the basic physical and temporal structures of the world around us and calls attention to the ways we observe change.
Andreas Fevos Apostolou is a pianist-composer born into an artistic family in Athens, Greece. Storytelling, intricate rhythms, jazz, and electronic music are vital sources of inspiration in his music. As a concert pianist, he has toured in Europe, Asia and America performing a wide range of repertoire, from Bach and Rachmaninoff to premières by Thomas Adès, John Luther Adams, and Apostolou’s own works. His compositions have been recorded by Naxos, and he has won first prizes in international competitions, both as a pianist and as a composer. His most recent commission was a soundtrack for the theatrical play Alexander/Aristotle by Alex Lyras, produced by the Getty Villa museum. He has a PhD in Composition from UCLA and a PhD in Piano Performance from University of Macedonia– Greece, dual Master’s degrees (MM in Piano, Composition) from Indiana University, and a Bachelor degree from Temple University (BM Piano). He was recently featured in Piano Spheres Masterwork Series, Jacaranda Music, and Hear Now Festival.
Ayrton Pisco performs “with aplomb, displaying a spirited line, crystalline and deftly defined” (San Diego Story) and has received top prizes in numerous competitions in the U.S. and abroad. Concert engagements have taken him around the world to North and South America, Europe and Asia. Mr. Pisco has performed as a soloist in prestigious venues such as Walt Disney Concert Hall, Copley Symphony Hall and Cláudio Santoro National Theater (Brazil), and collaborated with ensembles such as the La Jolla Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra of Brazil. A seasoned orchestra musician, Mr. Pisco has performed with ensembles such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the San Diego Symphony. As a chamber musician, he has shared the stage with members of the New York Philharmonic and of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and been featured on the WQWR and KUSC radio stations. Originally from Brasília, Brazil, Mr. Pisco holds degrees from Yale University, the University of Southern California and San Diego State University. Mr. Pisco is currently a Resident Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Inna Karsheva-Tillman, a native Bulgarian violinist, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance and an Artist Certificate in Music from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Masters Degree in Violin Performance and Orchestral Studies from Arizona State University. Inna has won numerous competitions and played for world class violinists in their masterclasses. She has served anywhere from a sectional player to a principal second violinist and concertmaster in many orchestras in Europe and the US. Through the past twelve years, Inna has held different teaching positions in Tennessee, Arizona and California. Her experience has provided her with the necessary skills to have a positive impact on the promotion of healthy growth and development through the study, practice and performance of music, as well as investing in each student’s development as a musical ambassador of peace, hope, and understanding amongst a diverse population of cultures, backgrounds and beliefs. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Inna is a Violin Music Advisor at Renaissance Arts Academy, as well as a freelance session/touring musician.
Garrit Tillman is an internationally touring/studio drummer, producer, and studio engineer. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he studied Studio Music and Jazz. Garrit has toured and recorded around the world with numerous artists, including: Jacob Banks, DPR Ian & Live, NIKI, Meg Mac, The War and Treaty, at acclaimed music festivals, venues, and studios like: Coachella, Lollapalooza, Montreux Jazz Fest, North Sea Jazz Fest, Jazz à Vienne, The King’s Theater, Head In The Clouds NYC & LA, EastWest Studios, and Variety. Garrit is a multi-genre drummer/percussionist who takes every opportunity as a new moment to create, fulfill, and offer new ideas for the performance. His high level of versatility, musicianship, and attention to nuance sets him apart from others. Between tours, Garrit records from his home studio for a variety of different songwriters and artists.
Kevin Mills, a native of Southern California, has been residing in the Los Angeles area upon completion of his schooling. With an Artist’s Diploma from Oberlin Conservatory, a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, and a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University of Fullerton, Kevin has been working in the world of classical music in all facets. He is thrilled to act as Assistant Principal Cellist of Las Vegas Philharmonic, Principal of the Rogue Valley Symphony, and as a frequent substitute player for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Frequent recording studio appearances have allowed him to work at prestigious studios such as Capitol Records and Sony Pictures. An avid chamber music player, Kevin travels often across the country as well as overseas to perform with organizations such as The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York and The Greenhouse Foundation in Seoul, Korea. He is most fortunate to have been gifted a coveted instrument, a 1779 Renault & Chatelain, from his dear first cello teacher.
Jarrett Threadgill is a Southern California native and has performed with many ensemble groups in the United States, as well as around the world. He currently holds a position with the Los Angeles Philharmonic as the violist in their Resident Fellowship program. After receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music, Jarrett went on to receive his Master’s from The Cleveland Institute of Music, which was the impetus to becoming an orchestral musician. He was awarded a teaching assistantship and full-tuition scholarship at the University of Miami to pursue his Artist Diploma and upon completion, became a Viola Fellow with the New World Symphony. Additionally, Jarrett was able to participate in an exchange program with the Iberacademy in Medellín, Colombia renewing his commitment to coaching and mentoring young musicians. During the 2018-2020 seasons, he served as Principal Viola of the Canton Symphony Orchestra. In this time he was also afforded opportunities to perform with the Buffalo Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Toledo Symphony.
